How it works

Times are calculated on your device with standard astronomical formulas for the sun's position (the same approach used by the NOAA solar calculator). Golden hour is when the sun is between 6° above and 4° below the horizon; blue hour is between 4° and 6° below. The moon phase uses the low-precision lunar terms from Jean Meeus's Astronomical Algorithms.

Your location is only used on this device; there are no API calls. The city list is bundled with the page.

Limits: times are typically within 1–2 minutes (more near the poles, and real conditions like mountains, refraction and elevation shift them). Moon phase times are within about half an hour. Moonrise and moonset aren't shown yet. The moon picture shows the northern-hemisphere view (it's flipped in the southern hemisphere).

Privacy: the tool runs in your browser, so nothing you add (files, text, passwords) is uploaded or stored by us. No account needed. It also works offline once loaded.
