Readability
How it works
Words are counted with Unicode-aware rules (contractions and hyphenated words count as one). Characters count what you see, so emoji and accented letters count once. Reading time uses 238 words per minute, the average for adults reading non-fiction silently.
Flesch reading ease runs from about 0 to 100, and higher is easier; 60–70 is plain English. Flesch–Kincaid grade and Gunning fog estimate the US school grade needed to follow the text. They use average sentence length and syllables per word, so treat them as a guide, not a verdict.
Limits: syllables are estimated with English spelling rules (right for roughly 9 in 10 words), so scores for other languages aren't meaningful. Sentence detection can be fooled by unusual abbreviations. Your draft is kept only in this browser if you leave "Keep my draft" ticked.
Privacy: the tool runs in your browser, so nothing you add (files, text, passwords) is uploaded or stored by us. No account needed. It also works offline once loaded.
